Karyn Starr is a Mother to two boys, one whom is Autistic/ADHD/PDA. She is a licensed mediator and experienced circle keeper. She is deeply rooted in New York City with a beautiful community and even still finds parenting a special needs child very lonely at times. Karyn has found the best support through other parents/caregivers of special needs kids and hopes to create a space for this to happen safely and easily.

Rachel and Aaron of Music.Art.Puppet.Sound (MAPS) will be offering six Saturday art sessions at The Delta this Winter and Spring 2022. Keep an eye out here and on their website to register when announced.

MAPS: Weekend Workshop

Join us in an artistic investigation into our planet and its wealth of plants, animals, fungi and other lifeforms, its water, its geography - we’ll examine everything the Earth has to offer as we experiment with artistic concepts like color, shape, line and composition. We will utilize and blur the lines between a range of artistic media including painting, drawing, sculpture, music, puppetry and mask-making always keeping our focus on nature, animals and the joys and wonders of the creative process!

MAPS: Art and Our Planet

Join us in artistic investigation as we learn about various artists and experiment with concepts like color, shape, line and composition. We will utilize and blur the lines between a range of artistic media including painting, drawing, sculpture, music, puppetry, storyboarding, character building and mask-making. Kids will even have the opportunity to research and design their own art project as a way to think about process and to practice using various online tools to discover research methods—let’s get kids excited about researching! We will teach students how to use databases such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Tate Modern’s online catalogue as a tool to discover and learn about new artists, artworks and time periods.

Jenny Cooper founded IXV, a no-waste coffee shop in Boerum Hill from her garage using reclaimed and repurposed materials. She’ll share her story of building a community business on zero-waste ideals and what we can do in our shared neighborhood to protect our one planet.
Jenny, a genius of brand and fashion, will show us how to make a block print, which she uses often at IXV. We’ll repurpose something “old” and you can bring it home feeling fresh and new.

Trash nerd alert the lid on the right is a PLA compostable plastic, that is difficult for smaller composters to handle and while accepted in municipal composting, may contain compounds that do not promote soil health. The lid on the left is made out of fiber, and is easier for all to identify as compostable, and stands a better chance of making it back to the earth as fuel. Either way, we need to expand our composting services to accommodate, and advocate for more materials knowledge from our restaurants and coffee shops! #reusableisbest
